Memoria Exhibition Launch

Memoria, by Artist in Residence Audrey Grant will open 25 May, 2024.

If you’ve been following our blogs over the last year, you will know that the Art Collection has had the pleasure of hosting Audrey Grant as our Artist in Residence. Over the 2023/24 period, Audrey has been exploring the rich and complex history of the Airthrey Estate, where the University of Stirling is now sited. Audrey has spent time in the landscape, considering the visible and invisible traces of the land’s history.

Now, we are delighted to invite you to the culmination of this residency period. Memoria, opens 25 May and will run until 9 August in the Pathfoot Building. This exciting exhibition will feature new work including overpainted photography, site-specific installation and film responses created during the residency period.

Sarah Bromage, Head of University Collections said, “The past year has been a wonderful experience and we have really enjoyed hosting Audrey as our artist in residence. We hope that her work responding to these ancient spaces and interpreting them artistically will encourage people to relook again at the beautiful landscape here at the University and to take inspiration from the campus itself. The timing of this exhibition is particularly fitting in 2024 when we are celebrating Stirling’s 900th year and looking back on its history”

Please join us for the exhibition launch on Saturday 25th May at 3:30pm to meet Audrey, toast to the new exhibition and view the work for the first time.

The launch is part of the Art Collection’s Annual Open Day, a day of workshops, performances and tours please see https://www.stir.ac.uk/events/23-24/art-collection/art-collection-open-day/ for more information.

“It has been an enormous privilege to be artist in residence at the University of Stirling over the past year and a joy to work with Sarah Bromage, the Collections team and many others. None of it would have been possible without their incredible help and support. Undertaking a major project like this has allowed me time to expand my practice and explore and experiment with new forms and mediums such as analogue photography and film, sound recording, found objects and site specific works. I hope this new exhibition of work shines a light on the beautiful and changing landscape of the Airthrey Estate”
